Impressions from the reading life

Reading progress update: I've read 57%.

A Princess of Mars - Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Seelye

Phew. I thought this would be some trashy fun, but I keep getting irritated by and angry about the worldbuilding (close to nen-existent) and ethic and racial inconsistencies.

So, Indians are savages, because the kill people who invade their country, and Marians are evil communists (green ones) and love to kill people too (greens and reds), but if the protagonist (who is oh so kind to everybody, except when he's in a lethal duel that doesn't make any sense) falls for a naked red girl, everything is okay?

I should just turn my brain off when reading this. But I can't. I can't.
